You aren't alone in your journey. Welcome to a community who understands.
Hi, I’m Kara.
I am a mom of three teens, a CA credentialed teacher, a volunteer for all things youth, and an ADHD+/EF/2e and K-8 math coach.
ADHD+ = ADHD almost always comes with something else (anxiety, learning challenges, OCD...).
EF = executive functions = life skills such as planning, time management, emotional regulation...
2e = twice exceptional = gifted with challenges.
I was a teacher in Goleta for 7 years before my own children were born which is when my new adventures began. Learning about ADHD+ and how to advocate became my new passion.
I now help students and families who feel overwhelmed and frustrated by math and/or ADHD+ find connection, routines, and communication strategies to strengthen skills for success in school and life. You aren't alone in your ADHD+ journey.
Whether you're navigating public school or homeschooling, or just trying to bring more calm and joy to your home, I am here to support you and your family.Â
Do you need help navigating how to parent an intense/bright/spirited/unique child?
Or maybe you need help strengthening executive function skills such as organization, time management, and emotional regulation?
Are you confused about 504's, IEP's, and accommodations?
Do you feel like no one understands the challenges your family is having?
Is your child struggling with math, or do they say that there's no reason to do it?
Is your child bright or gifted but not appearing to reach their "potential"?

My Passion and Purpose
Â
I grew up around several unidentified and unsupported 2e family members (ADHD, anxiety, bipolar, autism spectrum…and gifted). A few figured out a path that fit their personalities, while others turned to self-medicating, spiraling downward and remaining stuck.
When my own children were born, I noticed similar 2e traits and decided to take a different approach. I have attended classes and conferences, read books, and been a part of a moms’ support group to help me through the challenges of raising ADHD+ children. Life isn’t always “easy”, so I take it one day and one step at a time. I am determined to help my own children, and others who are similar, have more productive and joyful lives.
Using my own experiences, prior knowledge from my time as an elementary teacher, my intuitive sense, and my desire to help make a difference in the lives of families in my community, I work to support other families who feel unheard, alone, and lost in their journeys.
Whether you follow my public Facebook page for 2e Families, join my free Raising ADHD Youth in Santa Barbara Facebook connection group, signup for my membership support group, work with me 1:1, or participate in an ADHD/EF parent workshop, I’m here to help you feel connected to a community that understands your challenges, and arm you with resources to get your footing.
You aren’t alone.
